Welcome to the website of Dr Christopher Benwell. I am a lecturer and researcher in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience, with an overarching interest in Philosophy of Mind. In my lab at the University of Dundee, we employ visual psychophysics, electroencephalography (EEG) and multivariate data analysis in order to identify the neural activity underlying perceptual experience and metacognition. I believe that recent technical and analytical advances in neuroimaging offer unprecedented potential for the discovery of neurobiological substrates of the cognitive processes at the heart of everyday human experience. Not only is this of fundamental importance for the advancement of neuroscience, but also for the development of novel interventions in clinical neuropsychology and psychiatry.
